Polymer Study Tour for Technology & Engineering Teachers in October 2024

First Polymer Training (FPT) Skillnet will deliver the first Polymer Study Tour in Ireland for Technology and Engineering Teachers on 18 – 19 October 2024.  The free two-day, residential course is designed to enhance polymer subject knowledge of Irish post-primary educators by providing ideas for practical teaching and give an insight into the vibrant polymer industry in Ireland.

Delivered by experienced polymer professionals at the FPT Skillnet Training Centre in Athlone, the aim of this programme is to open the eyes of attendees to the world of polymers and plastics and support them to include it in their teaching. The Irish polymer industry plays a vitally important role in almost every area of our lives from life saving medical devices, to food packaging, through to the next generation air transport solutions and beyond. The sector is made up of over 230 highly innovative companies across Ireland employing over 7,000 people. There are huge job opportunities for new graduates in a very diverse environment working across high tech industries.

Across both days, the event will include a careful blend of lectures, practical sessions using readily available resources to demonstrate key polymer-related concepts, industry tours, and discussion opportunities that link closely with the polymer topics in the post-primary curriculum.

The Polymer Study Tour is a partnership between FPT Skillnet, the Technological University of the Shannon Athlone, Atim Cluster, The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining UK and the Worshipful Company of Horners.
